Cursor, the startup renowned for its AI coding solutions, has been officially acquired by SpaceX. The announcement of the acquisition was made in June, although the collaboration between the two companies began in April, focusing on enhancing Cursor's model training processes. According to Cursor, this new partnership grants them access to the largest array of GPUs globally, significantly enhancing their computing capabilities. This advancement is expected to enable them to develop and train superior models, ultimately allowing them to offer better services to their customers at reduced prices.
SpaceX, which integrated Elon Musk's AI venture xAI earlier this year, completed the acquisition for a substantial $60 billion. Following this, xAI was rebranded as SpaceXAI in July. Shortly after the rebranding, both companies launched Grok 4.5, the first collaborative model designed to excel in coding, agentic tasks, and various knowledge work, all while reducing costs. Since then, they have introduced Grok 4.6, which enhances the capabilities of its predecessor. This latest model has been trained for practical applications such as general coding, web development, and computer-aided design, among others. Cursor highlighted that Grok 4.6 offers a glimpse into the potential innovations that can emerge from its collaboration with SpaceXAI.
