Meta has introduced a new AI-driven image generator named Muse Image, developed by Meta Superintelligence Labs, the firm's specialized AI division. This new tool, initially dubbed Mango during its development, will be freely accessible via the Meta AI app and can also be used within Instagram Stories and WhatsApp.
So, what can Muse do? Its capabilities align closely with other AI image generators, allowing users to create a wide array of whimsical and cartoonish visuals. For those who might struggle to think of creative prompts, Meta has built-in “presets” — ready-made image prompts designed to inspire creativity.
An illustrative video highlights some of Muse's potential applications. One feature includes crafting customized advertisements, a trend that AI has increasingly influenced in the marketing sphere over the past year. Additionally, users can experiment with home decoration ideas, such as visualizing how a used couch would look in a specific space, linking this functionality to Facebook Marketplace, a platform akin to Craigslist for secondhand goods.
Muse also includes prompt-based image editing, enabling the creation of custom images ready to be shared across various Meta applications. Users can request specific tasks like generating an image of themselves in front of a historical site, removing unwanted elements from a photo, or even crafting a functional QR code through tailored prompts.
In tandem with the introduction of Muse, Meta is rolling out a suite of new AI effects for Instagram Stories, which will be powered by Muse technology. These effects include various customizable filters for enhancing existing photographs.
Meta emphasizes that the Muse model is available for free for general creative purposes, but users may need to consider subscription plans after exceeding a certain usage limit. Additionally, the company has announced that Muse Video, presumably a tool for generating AI video content, is currently in the works.
Over the last year, Meta has launched several AI-focused apps and services, such as an assistant named Creator and Pocket, an app for coding video games. Despite facing criticism for its unclear AI strategy, Meta remains committed to significant investments in AI infrastructure as it expands its offerings.
