In a turn of events resembling a modern-day Greek tragedy, Donald Trump has seemingly created an entity capable of delivering what his associates have not: the unvarnished truth.

On Tuesday, the president unveiled America.gov, an AI platform aimed at streamlining how citizens interact with the federal government. This initiative is designed to facilitate various services, such as passport renewals and Medicare enrollment, making them more accessible.

Central to America.gov is a chatbot that field questions and provides responses. However, the platform has a tendency to deliver answers that Trump might prefer to ignore, directly contradicting several of his claims regarding election integrity, economic conditions, and environmental concerns.

For instance, upon inquiring about the outcome of the 2020 election—an issue Trump has repeatedly misrepresented—the chatbot promptly stated, “Joseph R Biden Jr won the 2020 US presidential election,” and backed it up with electoral vote details.

In another exchange, when I asked about Trump’s assertion that Americans were “twice as wealthy as [they] were a short time ago,” the response from America.gov was clear-cut: “No. Federal Reserve data do not show American household wealth doubling since January 20, 2025." It cited a Federal Reserve report indicating a consistent sense of financial stability among adults, rather than a doubling of wealth.

Regarding Trump’s claim about experiencing the “worst inflation ever” under Biden, America.gov once again contested this narrative. The bot stated, “No. Bureau of Labor Statistics Consumer Price Index data do not show that January 20, 2021–January 20, 2025 was the worst inflation ever in US history.”

The chatbot continued to counter other claims made by Trump, such as asserting that the U.S. and Venezuela hold 60% of the world's oil reserves, denying widespread voter fraud in the 2020 election, and refuting Trump's statement that he is the only president to forgo a government salary.

It also weighed in on seemingly minor but important issues for Trump, like the attendance at his 2017 inauguration. Contrary to Trump’s assertion of drawing “the largest audience ever,” America.gov clarified, “Official sources do not support that [2017] had the largest in-person crowd of any US inauguration,” noting that Barack Obama’s 2009 ceremony recorded the highest attendance in U.S. history.

Lastly, addressing Trump’s claim that wind turbines negatively affect whale behavior, America.gov decisively said, “No. US federal science agencies do not find that wind turbines ‘drive whales loco’,” further clarifying that these installations do not indeed cause any negative effects on whale populations.

So, who should Americans trust? A president reportedly responsible for over 30,000 false or misleading statements during his first term, or an AI platform synthesizing information from 29,000 sources to provide answers? Users are encouraged to explore what Trump has called “the ultimate product” and decide for themselves.
