According to a recent Bloomberg report, Stripe has successfully completed its acquisition of OpenRouter.
OpenRouter specializes in helping clients select from a variety of AI models tailored to their unique requirements and financial constraints. Earlier this year, the company announced a substantial $113 million in Series B funding, achieving a valuation of approximately $1.3 billion. Notable investors in this round include Sequoia, Andreessen Horowitz, Menlo Ventures, and Alphabet's Capital G.
CEO Alex Atallah previously likened OpenRouter to a "Stripe for AI," emphasizing its role in providing a centralized platform for accessing diverse AI systems, thus avoiding vendor lock-in. The startup proudly reported having 8 million users worldwide and offering access to over 400 innovative AI models.
Last month, The Wall Street Journal revealed that Stripe and OpenRouter were engaged in acquisition negotiations. Bloomberg now states that these discussions have culminated in a deal valued at over $7 billion.
In response to inquiries about the acquisition, a spokesperson for Stripe informed TechCrunch that the company does not comment on rumors or speculation.
