Fidji Simo, the head of product and business at OpenAI, announced on Thursday her decision to resign from her position in order to concentrate on her recovery following a significant aggravation of a long-standing health condition.

Diagnosed with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) in 2019, Simo expressed the challenges she has faced over the years, including countless visits to medical professionals, managing her symptoms, navigating treatments and insurance matters, and grappling with the unseen burdens of being a patient.

In April, Simo stepped away from her role at OpenAI to take medical leave, during which Greg Brockman, OpenAI's President, assumed her product management responsibilities.

In her Thursday post on X, Simo reflected, "When I went on leave, many people praised me for putting my health first. The reality is that I’m only making this choice now because I struggled to do so previously."

Looking ahead, Simo plans to take on a part-time advisory position at OpenAI as she continues her recovery journey.
