The SpaceX Starship spacecraft was seen making its way from the production facility to launch pad 2 in Starbase, Texas, in preparation for its twelfth test flight on May 19, 2026. The company has officially announced that it will utilize the Nasdaq for its highly anticipated initial public offering (IPO), confirming prior reports shared with Reuters.

Dan Ives, the head of technology research at Wedbush Securities in New York, remarked, “SpaceX has now submitted its S-1 form to go public under the ticker SPCX, which is set to be the largest IPO in history. The company is positioned to capitalize on significant growth opportunities in the upcoming decades.”

Ives also speculated that there may be a merger between SpaceX and Tesla Inc. by 2027, suggesting that both companies are laying the groundwork for a unified operation. He explained that Elon Musk aims to obtain greater control of the AI landscape, potentially creating synergies between these two innovative firms as they aim to lead the charge in the AI revolution.

On the trading front, Dennis Dick, a proprietary trader at Triple D Trading in Barrie, Ontario, expressed some skepticism about investing in a $2 trillion company like SpaceX. He stated, “It’s a bit daunting to dive into an investment hoping for stellar returns. While I might engage in trading SpaceX, long-term investment isn’t my priority. It raises questions about Tesla—once SpaceX goes public, could that shift some focus away from Tesla?”

Carol Schleif, chief market strategist at BMO Private Wealth in Minneapolis, noted that the space sector draws considerable interest from investors, emphasizing the appeal of broad, ambitious themes. She explained that many clients are particularly excited about the upcoming Artemis mission, even though it faced media overshadowing due to global events. She highlighted that Artemis 2, which aims to return to the moon and lay the groundwork for lunar manufacturing, has generated substantial enthusiasm.
