On September 28, 2023, Cerebras Systems announced plans to provide AI chips and hardware capable of utilizing around 100 megawatts to the startup Gimlet Labs, aimed at enhancing its cloud computing capabilities. This partnership reflects the growing demand from AI firms for hardware optimized for rapid AI inference—specifically, the quick processing of responses generated by chatbots like Anthropic's Claude.
In an interview, Gimlet CEO Zain Asgar highlighted that fast inference operations can significantly benefit sectors including cybersecurity, voice applications, and financial analysis. He noted that their target market consists of businesses and startups developing AI-centric products.
Gimlet intends to leverage Cerebras' advanced hardware for executing frontier models, which are sophisticated AI algorithms that require substantial computing power for efficient operation. Cerebras plans to supply their CS-4 systems, first introduced this past summer, over the next one to two years. Gimlet anticipates making the CS-4 hardware accessible in its cloud services by 2027.
Andrew Feldman, CEO of Cerebras, described the deal as an endorsement of the simplicity involved in deploying their systems, even in environments that utilize varied hardware from different manufacturers. While both companies opted not to disclose the financial details of the agreement, Gimlet will handle the maintenance and operation of the systems upon delivery from Cerebras.
