Anthropic has successfully secured a remarkable $65 billion in its Series H funding round, with prominent contributions from key investors such as Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Greenoaks, and Sequoia Capital.
With this significant investment, Anthropic has officially surpassed OpenAI in market valuation, establishing itself as the foremost AI firm among private startups in Silicon Valley. The current valuation of Anthropic is nearly three times what it was in February, when it stood at approximately $380 billion. Additionally, this funding package comprises previously arranged investments, including a notable $5 billion from Amazon.
The surge in Anthropic’s value is largely attributed to the widespread acclaim for its AI assistant, Claude, and its Claude Code service, both of which have gained traction among software developers. The company reported an impressive annual revenue growth, climbing to $47 billion from only $10 billion the previous year.
In conjunction with this growth, Anthropic has unveiled its new AI model, Claude Opus 4.8, along with the Claude Mythos Preview, a closed system designed to enhance cybersecurity measures for corporate clientele.
Krishna Rao, Anthropic's Chief Financial Officer, noted that the global demand for Claude's offerings continues to expand at a rapid pace.
This surge in Anthropic’s position has further escalated the competition within the artificial intelligence industry. Back in March, OpenAI reached a staggering valuation of $852 billion after securing a historic $122 billion funding round. Meanwhile, leading AI companies are gearing up for public offerings, with reports from CNBC indicating that OpenAI may file for an initial public offering (IPO) in the upcoming weeks. Anthropic is also exploring the possibility of a public stock offering, although details regarding the timing remain unspecified.
In related news, a recent global survey conducted by the Gallup International Association revealed that Kazakhstan is among the nations least worried about job displacement due to advancements in artificial intelligence.
