On Tuesday, AI legal technology firm Norm announced it has secured $120 million in a Series C funding round led by Khosla Ventures, bringing its valuation to $1.2 billion. Founded nearly three years ago, Norm has established an AI-powered law firm called Norm Law, which integrates its proprietary AI agents with human attorneys who oversee their operations to provide legal services to enterprise clients. Additionally, the firm is developing sophisticated AI agents capable of supervising other AI agents in their work.
Differentiating itself from the traditional legal industry, Norm employs an outcome-based pricing model instead of hourly billing. This approach aligns with the growing trend among legal tech startups, including Harvey and Legora, aimed at streamlining labor-intensive legal tasks through automation.
The Series C round also attracted a diverse group of investors, including Bain, Craft Ventures, Coatue, Vanguard, New York Life, TIAA, as well as notable figures such as Tony James, the former president and COO of Blackstone, Jeff Hammes, the ex-chairman of Kirkland & Ellis, and the law firm Fenwick LLP. The newly acquired funds will be allocated towards product development and expanding the attorney team.
To date, Norm has raised over $260 million in total funding.
