Anthropic, the creator of Claude—one of the leading artificial intelligence models available—has officially initiated the process for an initial public offering (IPO). The firm revealed on Monday that it has confidentially filed a draft registration statement, referred to as Form S-1, with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in anticipation of going public.
In their announcement, Anthropic noted that this step allows them the flexibility to move forward with the IPO once the SEC completes its evaluation. The company also mentioned that specific details regarding the number of shares and pricing are yet to be determined.
This filing sets the stage for what could be a significant wave of IPOs from tech firms. Notably, Elon Musk's SpaceX, which engages in rocketry and artificial intelligence, submitted its financial details for an IPO in late May. Additionally, it is widely believed that OpenAI, known for developing ChatGPT, is also gearing up for a public offering.
Analysts at Wedbush Securities commented on Anthropic's announcement, suggesting it may signal a resurgence in the IPO market, which has seen a slowdown in recent years. They anticipate that the upcoming listings from these three powerful enterprises could lead to heightened activity in the public markets over the next few months.
Anthropic's valuation has soared to nearly $1 trillion following its recent fundraising efforts, achieving a market value of approximately $965 billion. This positions the company ahead of OpenAI, which reported a valuation of $852 billion back in March.
This filing arrives amid growing excitement and concerns surrounding artificial intelligence. Companies involved in AI, including chip manufacturers, have seen their stock prices surge as firms like Anthropic and OpenAI continue to make substantial investments in data centers.
