During a Senate Select Intelligence Committee confirmation hearing held on July 15, 2026, Jay Clayton, the appointed director of national intelligence, was announced as the new AI czar for the Trump administration. This strategic move comes in response to escalating concerns regarding the risks associated with the rapidly advancing field of artificial intelligence, as reported by The Wall Street Journal.

Clayton conveyed to the Journal that he will be spearheading a newly established White House task force tasked with a 120-day mandate to investigate and report on the potential risks and opportunities surrounding AI. This task force will also be responsible for offering guidance on the federal government's role in managing this groundbreaking technology.

"The president requested a team be assembled to ensure we maintain our leadership in superintelligence, prioritizing the interests of the American populace," Clayton stated, according to the Journal.

The task force will be named the "Super Intelligence Force," or SI, which aligns with President Donald Trump's preference for this terminology over the commonly used "AI." Consequently, Clayton will assume the pivotal role of AI czar, as confirmed by a senior official from the White House.

As of now, the White House has yet to respond to inquiries from CNBC regarding this initiative.

Back in September, in a post on Truth Social, Trump announced his intention to establish a new "AI Force" aimed at promoting industry innovation while addressing the actions of unethical actors within the field.

"We will not, in any way, hinder or stifle the growth of this incredible industry. Instead, we will nurture it, support it, and monitor its progression!" Trump expressed in the post, which also detailed plans to appoint an AI czar.

"Only High I.Q. individuals need apply!" he further emphasized.
