During a recent event at the White House, President Donald Trump reinforced his commitment to advancing artificial intelligence (AI) without imposing restrictions on its growth. He addressed leaders from prominent AI firms, including OpenAI, Anthropic, and META, among others.
Trump emphasized the competitive nature of AI, stating, "Whoever wins superintelligence wins," pointing out that the outcome will likely favor one entity over others, with no middle ground. He expressed pride in the current lead the U.S. holds over rivals like China, asserting the importance of maintaining this dominance. "We want to keep it that way, and the only way to do that is by fostering the environment we have now," he explained, alluding to an environment free from excessive regulation.
However, Trump also highlighted the necessity for ethical practices within the industry, saying, "We want people to behave honestly and be trustworthy." He noted the role of government agencies such as the Department of Justice and the FBI in ensuring accountability, especially in situations where companies might be tempted to pursue risky and unethical strategies.
