In a recent development, artist KC Green, renowned for creating the iconic “This is fine” meme, has announced that he has come to an agreement with the startup Artisan following a dispute over the use of his artwork.
The controversy ignited when Artisan utilized a modified version of Green's famous dog image to promote its AI assistant, Ava. The advertisements displayed the dog engulfed in flames, but instead of the classic phrase “This is fine,” it proclaimed, “My pipeline is on fire,” while encouraging potential clients to “Hire Ava the AI BDR.”
Earlier this month, Green expressed his dissatisfaction on social media, stating that his work had been “stolen like AI steals,” and even urged his supporters to “vandalize” the ads if they encountered them. In an interview with TechCrunch, he shared his frustration about having to navigate the American legal system instead of focusing on his comics.
In response, Artisan expressed their admiration for Green and his artistic contributions. This week, founder and CEO Jaspar Carmichael-Jack announced that an agreement had been reached between the two parties.
When contacted by TechCrunch, Green confirmed the swift resolution, noting that Artisan agreed to remove the advertisements in both New York and San Francisco featuring his character, while he would also retract his initial online post regarding the issue.
