OpenAI's advertising revenue is projected to significantly miss the company's ambitious five-year targets, falling short by an astounding 90%, as reported by Emarketer.
The AI organization anticipated generating $2.5 billion in ad revenue for this year, with an eye on reaching $100 billion by 2030. However, Emarketer's analysis indicates that independent chatbot platforms, including ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Google AI Mode, and Amazon Alexa for Shopping, are expected to bring in less than $1 billion in ad revenue this year, with only a modest growth to $5.41 billion by 2030.
OpenAI initiated its advertising trial in February. Just two months later, the company made headlines boasting about its revenue projections.
This forecast is based on the assumption that OpenAI will capture a significant share of the search advertising budget from established traditional sellers, dominate an evolving chatbot ad landscape, and achieve unmatched performance across various advertising formats—an ambitious strategy that aims to accomplish several challenging goals simultaneously.
