On May 19, Mistral AI, a prominent player in the artificial intelligence sector based in France, announced its acquisition of Emmi AI, an Austrian company situated in Linz, for an undisclosed amount. This strategic move aims to bolster Mistral's services for industrial customers throughout Europe.

Emmi AI, known for its expertise in creating models that address complex physical phenomena like airflow dynamics, heat transfer, and material stress, successfully attracted €15 million in Austria's largest funding round in 2025.

The integration of industrial AI solutions is increasingly critical to Europe’s re-industrialization efforts. The European Commission highlighted manufacturing as one of the AI-critical sectors last October, driven by the goal of reducing dependency on technologies from the U.S. and China.

Mistral indicated that this acquisition aligns with its foundational strategy to better serve its European clientele, with a focus on engineering and manufacturing areas that it believes are currently underappreciated by the broader industry.

The firm customizes its solutions to meet specific client needs, combining various AI tools to oversee production for defects, manage robotic arms, and process logistics data, all working seamlessly together.

With Emmi's sophisticated capabilities, Mistral's systems will gain improved abilities to simulate and interact with the physical environment more accurately.

Notably, Mistral’s collaboration with ASML has already yielded impressive results, where AI-equipped EUV lithography machines now employ vision models to swiftly detect engraving defects, reducing diagnostic times from several hours to a mere eight minutes and significantly decreasing waste of expensive silicon wafers.

ASML's CFO, Roger Dassen, remarked during the company’s April annual general meeting that this advancement saves considerable downtime on costly equipment.

CEO Arthur Mensch expressed optimism about the acquisition, emphasizing that it will fortify Mistral's stance as a reliable partner for manufacturers in key industries such as aerospace, automotive, and semiconductors.
