Reliance has announced plans to construct a data center in Jamnagar, Gujarat, which will feature an impressive capacity of 168 MW. Meta will lease this facility and has the flexibility to expand as necessary, as outlined in their recent announcement.
Meta recognized India’s vast user base and its rapidly expanding digital economy as compelling reasons for investment in the region.
According to the consulting firm IMARC Group, India's data center sector is expected to experience tremendous growth, nearly doubling to reach $13.11 billion by 2034. This growth is being driven by digital transformation efforts, increased cloud adoption, and the rising demand for artificial intelligence workloads.
Earlier in August of the previous year, Meta and Reliance entered into a joint venture aimed at developing AI platforms and tools tailored for Indian enterprises, leveraging Meta’s Llama models. The two companies committed to an initial investment of 8.55 billion rupees (approximately $89.67 million), with Reliance taking a 70% stake and Meta holding 30%.
It's worth noting that in 2020, Meta made a significant investment of $5.7 billion in Jio Platforms, a subsidiary of Reliance.
