Meta Platforms, led by CEO Mark Zuckerberg, is venturing into the realm of artificial intelligence by launching a new division aimed at supplying AI tools specifically for enterprise clients. This initiative seeks to capitalize on the success of its popular Muse personal assistant while justifying the substantial financial investments the company has made.
The new business will integrate several of Meta’s AI offerings, including the Muse productivity assistant, a coding tool, and access to advanced models designed for business use, as confirmed by the company. To spearhead this new venture, Meta has appointed Chirantan “CJ” Desai, who previously served as the CEO of the document database firm MongoDB. Desai will report directly to Zuckerberg in this role.
Meta is shifting its focus from primarily being a consumer-centric advertising platform to also incorporating subscription and service offerings tailored for business customers. This year alone, the company is investing over $100 billion in enhancing its AI infrastructure, and investors are watching closely for tangible results from these expenditures.
In a statement, Zuckerberg emphasized that the new division will leverage unique advantages that differentiate Meta from its competitors, including advanced models, top-tier agents, extensive infrastructure, and years of collaboration with various businesses. However, the company has yet to reveal specific details regarding the operations or pricing of the new services.
Meta faces a competitive landscape as it enters the enterprise market, with established tools such as Anthropic’s Claude Code, OpenAI’s Codex, and SpaceX’s Cursor already popular among business users. Additionally, the emergence of affordable Chinese open-weight AI models presents new challenges. Longstanding players like Google and Microsoft continue to provide comprehensive suites of workplace communication, productivity applications, and cloud services.
Earlier this summer, Meta unveiled business agents across its WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger platforms, designed to assist with customer inquiries, appointment bookings, and sales transactions. The company aims for these tools to evolve further by conducting market research and integrating with tools to manage business schedules.
