At Apple's WWDC 2026, the company unveiled exciting updates for its software, specifically enhancing the Photos app with innovative features powered by Apple Intelligence. Key among these updates are the introduction of Spatial Reframing, an Expand tool, and improvements to the Clean Up feature.
The Spatial Reframing tool leverages artificial intelligence to mimic a different camera perspective, creating the illusion of a repositioned viewpoint. Users can activate the feature, then easily explore various perspectives by dragging the image to discover their preferred angle. Interestingly, this feature is versatile and works with all types of photos, not just those that are spatial.
In addition, the new Expand tool employs AI technologies to extend the content beyond the borders of an image. The existing Clean Up feature is also receiving notable enhancements, aimed at providing improved quality and more realistic in-fill options when removing unwanted elements from photos.
Moreover, Apple’s Image Playground, which first appeared in iOS 18, is showing signs of maturity. This AI-driven image generator is now capable of creating photorealistic images, a significant upgrade from its earlier, more cartoonish outputs. Users can generate images featuring multiple individuals from their photo library and can make edits by simply circling objects and describing desired changes in everyday language. The app further offers the flexibility to choose from various orientations, including portrait, landscape, square, and a "wallpaper" mode designed for iPhone display dimensions.
