Gwyneth Paltrow, the founder of Goop, has reportedly decided to delay a dinner party in the Hamptons that was organized to celebrate Sam Altman, the founder of OpenAI. This decision comes after significant backlash regarding the event.
The award-winning actress had issued invitations for the gathering intended to honor Altman, a figure who has raised concerns within the film industry due to the potential job displacements caused by his artificial intelligence innovations.
According to Puck, this exclusive “off the record” dinner was slated to occur in Amagansett later in the month but appears to have been postponed, as indicated by reports from The New York Times and People. Social media reactions to the announcement were largely unfavorable, with Paltrow facing criticism for seemingly siding with what some labeled “evil” and “technofascism.”
In a lighthearted response to the negative attention surrounding her event, Paltrow shared what seemed to be AI-generated invitations for a weekend dinner that humorously featured M3GAN, the AI antagonist from the 2022 horror film. On social media, she joked about the menu, which would include swordfish burritos and Cheddar foam lattes upon request.
The decision to cancel the Altman celebration took place on Friday. A source informed People, “The event was postponed for the time being due to the backlash,” further suggesting that it is unlikely to proceed as originally planned.
In other ventures, Paltrow recently gave Architectural Digest a sneak peek at a new Goop Kitchen, set to open in San Diego next week and named after her luxury lifestyle brand. A second location is anticipated to launch in Manhattan by the end of the year. Since its inception, Goop has been delivering food since 2021.
