As the July 4th holiday approached, President Donald Trump took to social media late Wednesday evening to critique some of his prominent celebrity adversaries, asserting that they are afflicted with the fictional ailment he calls “Trump Derangement Syndrome.”
In a comedic AI-generated video uploaded to his Truth Social account just before midnight, Trump adopts the persona of “Dr. Trump.” Utilizing a tone reminiscent of pharmaceutical commercials, he claims to possess a “treatment plan” for those suffering from this so-called syndrome. The amusing clip features fabricated testimonials from celebrities including Rosie O’Donnell, “The View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg, and actor Robert De Niro, who all detail their imaginary symptoms of “TDS.” Additionally, the video showcases AI-rendered faces of Julia Roberts, John Leguizamo, and Edward Norton as fellow “patients” grappling with the condition.
Trump has previously suggested that “TDS” might be a legitimate psychological issue; at a May event at the White House, he stated, “I’m hearing it is actually a disease,” as reported by Mediaite.
In a post on Truth Social following the murder of director and actor Rob Reiner and his wife Michele last December, Trump remarked that Reiner had perished “reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS.”
In the tongue-in-cheek “Dr. Trump” video, an AI-generated O’Donnell shares, “I have been suffering for over a decade and after listening to Dr. Trump, I can see some results.” The AI-portrayed De Niro comments, “I had no idea how much this was affecting my life. My work has slowed down. I’m hardly recognizable anymore. I just needed help. I couldn’t eat. I couldn’t sleep. Constantly angry. I made everyone miserable around me.”
Roberts’ AI counterpart conveys in the video, “I feel like I’ve aged 20 years in the last two years” and expresses concerns about her future.
What does Dr. Trump suggest as a remedy for TDS? In a humorous twist at the end of the video, he advises: “Turn off fake news. Say your prayers and, if you ever feel anxious, just have a Diet Coke like me and you’re gonna see a remarkable difference in your life.”
This is not the first time Trump has utilized AI-generated imagery and videos on social media. Earlier this spring, he shared an illustration depicting himself as a Christ-like figure healing a man, which he later removed, claiming it was meant to showcase him as a doctor.
Trump's account has also featured AI creations showing him dressed as the Pope, and himself as Superman alongside associates as DC superheroes. In October 2025, he shared a video portraying himself as a king in a fighter jet targeting protesters in New York City.
Earlier this February, Trump posted an AI video representing Barack and Michelle Obama as apes, using a “Lion King”-themed meme. Despite initial defenses from the White House labeling it as satire, the video was deleted following backlash, including criticism from some Republicans. Trump did not apologize, instead noting, “I liked the beginning. I saw it and just passed it on, and I guess probably nobody reviewed the end of it.”
