He called for the formation of a US-led coalition to scrutinize the most advanced AI models to ensure their safety prior to public deployment. This statement came in light of recent measures by the Trump administration aimed at regulating the release of AI models from companies like OpenAI and Anthropic.

For several years, Hassabis has advocated for the establishment of a formalized group of experts to oversee the development of AI's leading-edge innovations, termed frontier models. His recent proposition for a "Standards Body" appears to be a direct reaction to the White House’s heightened involvement in AI regulation.
