In a groundbreaking initiative, the Claude Frontier Academy has been established to equip Frontier Deployed Engineers (FDEs) with the same elite skills as Anthropic's own engineers. This innovative program is set to train 10,000 engineers by 2027, fueled by a substantial $100 million investment. Among the first cohorts are engineers from prestigious companies such as Accenture, Bain, Capgemini, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Deloitte, McKinsey, Morgan Stanley, and Novo Nordisk.
With enterprises racing to integrate AI into their operations, finding skilled professionals capable of making AI technologies work effectively has become an urgent priority. In many organizations, a limited number of highly skilled individuals contribute significantly to the success of AI initiatives. The Academy is unique as it leverages Anthropic's extensive experience in implementing its AI model, Claude, within the largest global enterprises and the consulting firms supporting them.
Steve Corfield, Global Head of Business Development and Partnerships at Anthropic, remarked, “A small team of skilled engineers with access to Claude can drastically improve a company’s operations. The challenge lies in cultivating talent that possesses not only AI proficiency but also the ability to transform ideas into effective systems. No other AI organization has invested in nurturing talent within its clients and partners to this extent. The Claude Frontier Academy will equip graduates to set the benchmark for AI development in business.”
The Academy's inaugural program, the Frontier Deployed Engineer Residency, adopts a medical training model, where engineers gain practical experience under the guidance of seasoned practitioners. Participants will engage in real-world scenarios and undergo evaluations to ensure readiness before working independently. The objective is to create intelligent systems that enhance business operations, streamline processes, and foster innovation in products and services.
Designed for hands-on software engineers with robust foundational skills, experience with large language models (LLMs), and a problem-solving mindset, this program focuses on those actively contributing to their organizations’ AI strategies. Engineers will be nominated by their respective organizations, bringing their own Claude project to lead upon completion.
The journey begins with a multi-day in-person training session involving simulative enterprise deployments, security reviews, and practical assessments. Successful candidates earn the Claude Resident Engineer badge before entering the 12-week residency phase, where they will take the helm of actual Claude projects in their organizations, benefiting from ongoing support from Anthropic engineers and collaboration with fellow participants. At the conclusion of the residency, passing engineers will receive the Claude Frontier Deployed Engineer badge, with the first cohort expected to graduate in early 2027.
Currently, cohorts are taking place in San Francisco, New York, and London, with plans to expand to 10,000 engineers by the end of the designated timeframe. Participation is based on nomination; organizations are encouraged to consult their Anthropic account representatives to check eligibility.
The initial cohorts feature participants from leading enterprises and consulting firms. For instance, Accenture highlighted that their engineers will be able to transition AI strategies into actionable business solutions, combining their tech-savvy skills with the practical insights gained from the Academy. Similarly, companies like Capgemini and Morgan Stanley emphasized the direct value and real-world problem-solving capabilities that will result from collaborative experiences with Anthropic engineers.
In addition, Novo Nordisk noted the potential for transformative practices in drug discovery and development, leveraging the expertise gained through the Academy to expedite the introduction of groundbreaking medicines.
The Claude Frontier Academy builds upon the framework established by the Claude Partner Network, which has already seen professionals from over 46,000 firms attain more than 175,000 Claude certifications. Nearly 4,000 individuals have completed Basecamp, an immersive program designed to impart the equivalent training that Anthropic’s Applied AI teams receive upon onboarding. This Academy represents the first step in a broader initiative aimed at cultivating a new generation of skilled professionals to lead AI advancements within businesses.
