Alphabet's stock price rose by 3% on Monday following a report from The Information indicating that the company is working on a new server chip known as "Frozen v2." This chip is being engineered to enhance the performance of Gemini models.

According to the report, the innovation involves integrating components of Gemini's architecture directly into the chip's silicon. This integration is expected to minimize the number of calculations and the volume of data movement required for processing queries.

In a statement to CNBC, Alphabet emphasized its commitment to ongoing research and experimentation aimed at maximizing performance and efficiency for both users and clients. The company acknowledged that not every initiative leads to production, but affirmed that such explorative efforts are essential to its comprehensive approach.

"By co-designing our hardware and software from the ground up, we ensure that our systems are both integrated and highly optimized for practical applications," the statement added.

Engineers at Google anticipate that Frozen could potentially process six to ten times more tokens per unit of energy compared to the company’s latest AI chips, known as TPUs (tensor processing units). The introduction of Frozen is positioned as a specialized extension of Google’s custom-chip lineup, rather than a replacement for the general-purpose TPUs.
