Three innovative startups are revolutionizing the way travelers handle airfare fluctuations, particularly when prices drop after a ticket has already been purchased, as highlighted in a recent Reuters article published on October 30.

By engaging with the services offered by JetBack, Junova, and Refare, travelers can leverage artificial intelligence to track fare changes and potentially secure refunds or flight credits stemming from price reductions.

JetBack operates on an annual fee of $100 for their service. In contrast, Junova and Refare charge a percentage of the savings they achieve for their clients, with rates set at 20% and 25%, respectively.

Junova revealed that from its monitoring of flights between September 2025 and July, approximately 22% experienced at least one price drop. Meanwhile, Refare provided data indicating that the negotiability of fares varied across five airlines, with 13% to 29% of flights being eligible for price negotiation. Average savings through these negotiations typically ranged from $34 to $396 per flight.

Since its inception in early 2025, JetBack has successfully recovered $2.4 million for travelers, showcasing the practical benefits of their service.

The viability of these business models hinges on airlines maintaining the ability to adjust fares without imposing substantial change fees, as mentioned in the report. In a bid to boost travel in the aftermath of the pandemic, many airlines had waived change fees for certain ticket types.

It's important to note that policies regarding change fees differ between airlines and are subject to change at any time. JetBack noted in its launch announcement in July 2025 that fare volatility has increased significantly with the implementation of AI and real-time pricing strategies among airlines.

According to an August blog post from Junova, numerous flights often undergo multiple price changes, with fluctuations potentially occurring right up until departure. The company's service minimizes the time travelers would otherwise spend tracking prices, making calls to airlines, and attempting to negotiate refunds.

Refare, in its blog post dated October 19, acknowledged that while no outcomes can be guaranteed, their historical data reflects a success rate exceeding 90% in recovering fares from eligible price drops.

Previously, PYMNTS reported in August that airlines are increasingly employing artificial intelligence to swiftly analyze various factors and recommend fare changes. Additionally, as of July, passengers may encounter challenges in discovering affordable seats as airlines enhance their pricing strategies with AI technology.
