In just 17 months since it debuted quietly, entrepreneur Surbhi Sarna has successfully secured $95 million in funding for Collate, her company focused on automating paperwork in the life sciences sector using AI technology. This round, led by Redpoint Ventures, elevates Collate’s total financing to $125 million and brings its valuation close to $1 billion.

Sarna emphasizes that the future battleground for AI will be in life sciences documentation by 2026, mirroring the explosive growth seen in legal AI ventures like Harvey, valued at $11 billion. Life sciences organizations are inundated with forms and documents related to regulatory requirements, clinical trials, and product development, making them prime candidates for AI-driven solutions. The company's entrance into the market occurred at a fortuitous time when many life sciences companies acknowledged their limitations in in-house AI development and opted to partner with external innovators.

Since onboarding its first client in May 2025, Collate has expanded its customer base to approximately 50, including large pharmaceutical firms, notable medical device manufacturers, and publicly traded biotech companies. Sarna remarks, “We engaged with leading life sciences organizations immediately after our launch. The industry is acutely aware of the challenges.” Redpoint's Satish Dharmaraj, who oversaw the investment, believes that this area could yield even more lucrative opportunities than the legal sector due to the scale of enterprise-level companies in life sciences.

At 40 years old, Sarna's entrepreneurial journey began with her own health struggles related to ovarian cysts, which fueled her previous venture, NVision Medical, that she eventually sold for $275 million in 2018. With Collate, backed by significant seed investment, Sarna’s past success has helped her attract top-tier investors, even before the company launched a commercial product.

Collate's technology drastically reduces the time needed for life sciences paperwork. Sarna notes that it can achieve time savings of 50% to 90%, significantly expediting processes that previously took up to seven months down to less than one month. This efficiency is critical for companies aimed at introducing new therapies, where administrative delays can hinder progress.

Sarna maintains that while AI systems can have flaws, Collate’s accuracy is impressively high at over 90%, often reaching 97%. As a precaution, human checks are implemented before documents are finalized. "It might not seem glamorous, but ensuring patient safety is my top priority," she states. Sarna anticipates that within the next six to nine months, a majority of life sciences companies will explore AI solutions for administrative functions. “It’s wildly exciting,” she shares. “For any savvy founder, this is an opportunity you can’t pass up.”

In related news, Caryn Seidman Becker, having transformed Clear into a profitable name in airport security with substantial revenues, is now directing her attention towards healthcare. The company, which has yet to report specific financial metrics for its healthcare initiatives, is rapidly establishing partnerships with major hospital systems across multiple states. Clear's technology includes a system for verifying identities via facial recognition during medical appointments and procedures. Recently, Clear secured a $6 million contract with Medicare, streamlining account access for new enrollees.

Meanwhile, Harrison.ai, founded by Aengus Tran in 2018, is looking to make significant strides in the U.S. market. The company specializes in AI solutions that analyze medical imaging, enhancing diagnostic efficiency and significantly reducing waiting times for critical assessments. Currently utilized by over 3,400 medical professionals worldwide, Harrison.ai aims to expand its presence in the United States, which Tran describes as a crucial next step, given their software's proven capability in delivering accurate diagnoses.

At the ASCO conference, Dr. Brian Wolpin's presentation on Revolution Medicine’s pancreatic cancer treatment excited attendees as results from a clinical trial indicated that patients using the targeted medication drew nearly double the survival duration compared to those undergoing traditional chemotherapy. The event also highlighted other vital developments in oncology, such as the collaboration between Moderna and Merck that revealed promising outcomes for late-stage melanoma patients treated with a combination vaccine.

Notably, Veracyte unveiled findings showing that its Prosigna test could help high-risk breast cancer patients forgo chemotherapy. Additional studies from Dana-Farber emphasized the potential of the antibody-drug conjugate Todelvy as a primary treatment for certain aggressive breast cancer cases.

In a significant investment move, NewLimit, a startup focused on longevity, raised $435 million, tripling its valuation to $3.1 billion. This funding will support clinical trials aimed at reversing aging-related diseases, particularly targeting alcohol-related liver complications.

Other emerging healthcare narratives include the resurgence of vaccine-preventable illnesses, the economic implications of questionable medical procedures, and AI’s increasing presence in diagnostics and patient care.
